If the resume skills needed for the job are not essentially ones that need to relate to the position, then the position can be classified as "entry level position." The main purpose of entry-level careers is to provide a start entry into a particular field. This means that though you might not possess the job-specific abilities the job demands, maybe you have enough of what are known as “transferrable” abilities that you're offered the position anyway.
A practical or a skills-based resume is the right resume format to apply when applying for this type of position. In such a formatting you should try to attract focus on any of those talents that you've got, while trying to downplay any experience or past jobs that are un-related to the position being applied for.
Many reasons exist why people seek entry-level careers. A number of good reasons include just graduating from college or university, re-entering the workforce, or possibly switching career paths completely. A very important thing to keep in mind when writing about your resume skills is to be specific. Especially because you've got a lack of experience in this particular field, you have to show that you still have experience that could make you a valuable employee.
For example, if you are a former teacher who is now considering a customer care position, you must give examples of instances during your teaching career when you've had to carry out good customer support skills including “managed fundraising activities for the school's art supply fund”; in order to be an effective fundraiser, you need to know ways to communicate and handle people very well, which are crucial components of customer service talent.
If you're shifting jobs, chances are, prospective employers may perhaps assume that you are over-qualified for the position that you are seeking for. You can actually minimize this by downplaying whatever over-qualifies you for the job. Although you have to record schooling and former jobs, adding them after your resume abilities will encourage the reader to focus them instead of your job background. You also need to clarify in your job cover letter the reasons about your job change but do not get them to too wordy or personal. Doing so, you're giving them adequate knowledge concerning your foremost purposes for the position.
